Microsoft's partnership with OpenAI has evolved, signifying a shift where Microsoft is no longer the exclusive data center infrastructure provider for OpenAI. According to the revised agreement, Microsoft retains a right of first refusal for additional cloud computing resources from OpenAI. However, should Microsoft be unable to fulfill OpenAI's requirements, OpenAI now has the liberty to engage other cloud service providers. This change is a response to OpenAI's need for expanded computing resources, and Microsoft has given its nod to OpenAI's collaboration with Oracle to augment these resources. Microsoft underscores that the bedrock of their cooperation remains intact and will extend through 2030, encompassing access to OpenAI's intellectual property, revenue sharing, and exclusive rights to operate OpenAI APIs, which will continue to be hosted exclusively on the Azure platform.
