On October 29th, news emerged that Yu Xiaohui, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, recently chaired a symposium focused on accelerating the construction and development of next-generation communication networks. The primary agenda of the meeting was to review the progress of ongoing projects and deliberate on strategies for providing resource and financial policy support. The symposium underscored the importance of capitalizing on the development opportunities presented by next-generation information technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. It called for a coordinated approach to advancing foundational, spatial, international, and converged network infrastructures, with the aim of comprehensively enhancing capabilities in universal intelligence, security resilience, and green, low-carbon operations. Moreover, the meeting highlighted the necessity of bolstering technological innovation and fostering application-driven demand, in order to expedite the establishment of a comprehensive, high-performance next-generation communication network. To achieve this, it proposed strengthening coordinated planning and policy alignment, establishing a robust coordination mechanism. This mechanism would ensure that the construction of next-generation communication networks is seamlessly integrated into relevant plans, policies, and key initiatives, thereby collectively addressing challenges related to securing essential resources such as land and electricity. Additionally, the symposium emphasized the need to refine investment mechanisms, optimize project support, assessment incentives, and financial policies. It encouraged increased corporate investment and guided social capital participation, with the shared goal of advancing the implementation of key tasks for next-generation communication networks.
