The state of Texas in the United States has suspended approvals for new projects due to an assessment of grid risks, causing banks to delay the sale of bonds intended to finance data centers associated with Anthropic PBC from a $15 billion loan package. This delay comes just ahead of Anthropic's massive IPO, as the company is heavily investing in computing infrastructure. This forces banks to retain this debt on their balance sheets for a longer period. The lenders, led by Morgan Stanley, have raised approximately $15 billion to finance the construction of data centers in Hubbard, near Waco, Texas. Originally, there were plans to sell $5 billion to $7 billion in bonds to high-yield bond investors in September to refinance a portion of the loan, but now the sales may be conducted in batches over the next year. The debt includes a $14.2 billion one-year loan and a $1.4 billion five-year revolving credit facility, with lenders seeking to refinance a portion of the loan through high-yield bond investors.
