The open-source encryption software library OpenSSL officially released version 4.1 on October 23, 2026, introducing multiple new features and performance optimizations. The new version supports the DTLS 1.3 protocol, implements the GREASE mechanism, accelerates post-quantum cryptographic algorithms, and optimizes certain cryptographic operations for x86-64 processors supporting the AVX-512 instruction set. Additionally, it removes build support for Windows CE and Windows Itanium platforms, further cleaning up legacy code.
