On October 22, the British newspaper The Guardian revealed that several months prior, a sprawling 330-hectare forest near the town of Muhos in northern Finland was home to approximately 250,000 trees. However, Google has now illegally felled these trees to clear land for a data center, and in the process, has also stripped away the topsoil. Local residents have reported that murky, brown water from the construction site is now seeping into streams that ultimately feed into the Oulujoki River, raising serious environmental concerns.
