On October 20, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported that Amazon is set to invest a staggering €16 billion (approximately $21 billion) in Germany in the coming year. This investment will span across various sectors, including employment, technology, and infrastructure. Specifically, it will encompass the expansion of data centers and AI infrastructure, the provision of high-speed satellite internet services via Amazon Leo, the launch of new nationwide logistics projects, and a fresh wave of large-scale production initiatives for Prime Video.
David Zapolsky, Amazon's Head of Global Affairs and Legal, emphasized Germany's status as an innovation hub and one of the most alluring investment destinations in Europe. He highlighted that since 2010, Amazon has already poured over €100 billion (around $133 billion) into the German market. Furthermore, the company plans to inject an additional €16 billion by 2027, with the goal of equipping German businesses, communities, and creators with the necessary infrastructure and tools to compete and thrive.
A significant portion of this investment, approximately €4.8 billion (about $6.4 billion), will be earmarked for expanding Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud services and AI infrastructure in Germany. Currently, AWS employs around 3,000 people in Frankfurt, underscoring Amazon's commitment to bolstering its presence and capabilities in the region.
