John Felton, CFO of Amazon Web Services, believes that the boom in artificial intelligence infrastructure and service spending is sustainable and is driving meaningful innovation. Addressing concerns from some investors and analysts about an AI bubble and the difficulty of matching corporate revenue growth with massive infrastructure investments, Felton stated that AWS's AI capital expenditures have already begun to generate returns. He emphasized that AI should be viewed as a tool for enhancing productivity, not just for reducing costs. He revealed that AWS has nearly $500 billion in order backlog and feels secure about current capital expenditures, with the ROI cycle for AI servers being less than three years. Data shows that AWS's revenue in the second quarter reached $42.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 36.7%. The annualized revenue run rate for its AI business has exceeded $25 billion, with triple-digit year-on-year growth.
