On Monday, the European Union unveiled an environmental rating system specifically tailored for AI data centers. The EU's energy commissioner emphasized that this initiative is designed to compel tech behemoths to harmonize their operations with the EU's climate endeavors. Slated to come into force in August 2027, the new regulations will mandate that sizable data centers prominently display rating labels. Drawing inspiration from the EU's well-established appliance rating system, this framework categorizes data centers into seven distinct grades, ranging from A to G, based on their energy efficiency, water consumption, and the extent to which they utilize clean energy sources.
