On September 15th, Wang Xin, the Director of the Research Bureau at the People's Bank of China, highlighted that the direct water consumption of computing centers worldwide has been escalating swiftly in recent years. While the water consumption of computing centers in China represents a comparatively small fraction of the national total, structural concerns have already begun to surface. To address the water resource challenges associated with the advancement of artificial intelligence and computing power, four key strategies are proposed: Firstly, enhance the measurement, monitoring, and data verification processes for water resources, and refine the information disclosure framework; Secondly, encourage the adoption of water-saving technologies and improve the resource efficiency evaluation system for green data centers; Thirdly, optimize resource distribution by adjusting water prices; Fourthly, leverage green financial instruments to foster the harmonious development of artificial intelligence and water resources.
