According to three sources with inside knowledge of the situation, India has put a halt to the cooperation initiative between Alipay+, a subsidiary of Ant International, and India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) instant payment system. The proposed collaboration, announced in January of this year, was initially designed to streamline cross-border payments for Indian tourists visiting China and other Asian destinations. There were also subsequent plans to enable international tourists to utilize Alipay+ services within India. Nevertheless, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has decided to suspend this cooperation due to what it describes as "political reasons."

Indian law enforcement agencies have voiced apprehensions regarding the potential risks associated with money laundering and data breaches. Furthermore, Indian regulatory authorities are currently subjecting bilateral cross-border payment projects involving Chinese companies to more rigorous scrutiny. At present, there is no definitive strategy in place to surmount these hurdles.
