On August 29th, reports emerged from the 2026 China International Big Data Industry Expo, where "data annotation" emerged as a hot topic of discussion. Data annotation is the process of adding precise "labels" to raw data, such as texts, images, and voice recordings, enabling AI systems to comprehend and recognize the real world more effectively. It serves as a vital bridge connecting human intelligence with machine intelligence. Currently, as AI transitions from technological innovation to widespread application, the demand for data annotation—a foundational element for AI development—has skyrocketed.
In response to this trend, Guizhou Province has positioned data annotation and collection as a new driving force and a key sector for the growth of its digital economy. The province is actively attracting and nurturing data enterprises and cultivating a skilled workforce in this field. To date, Guizhou has successfully attracted 135 data annotation enterprises and assembled a team of over 16,000 professionals dedicated to this burgeoning industry.
