On August 29th, news emerged that the 2026 China International Big Data Industry Expo is currently taking place in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. At the expo, the head of the National Data Bureau highlighted that large-scale AI models are rapidly infiltrating diverse industries, propelling a sharp rise in token utilization across China and fueling an explosive surge in market demand.
Liu Liehong, Director of the National Data Bureau, emphasized during a token-centric exchange event that the more comprehensive a model's capabilities, the greater its efficiency in token generation. This, in turn, leads to more coherent, precise, and high-quality output content. Tokens, he explained, serve as essential benchmarks for the quantification, pricing, trading, and settlement of AI services.
Presently, the token industry ecosystem has drawn in a multitude of participants, ranging from computing power leasing firms and model developers to data service providers and specialized technical service organizations. In practice, various "token factory" models have also emerged, reflecting the dynamic and evolving nature of this sector.
