On August 28th, reports emerged indicating that the communications sector has maintained a steady operational trajectory in the initial seven months of the current year. The overall volume of telecommunication services witnessed consistent growth, the deployment of new-type infrastructure continued to progress, and the user base for 5G, gigabit networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), and other services expanded steadily, accompanied by a surge in mobile internet traffic. Data reveals that during the first seven months, the cumulative revenue from telecommunication services amounted to RMB 1.02 trillion, reflecting a 2.1% year-on-year (YoY) decrease. Nevertheless, when adjusted for constant prices from the previous year, the total volume of telecommunication services actually increased by 7.7% YoY.
Fixed broadband access users are rapidly upgrading to gigabit speeds. By the end of July, the total number of fixed internet broadband access users across the three fundamental telecommunication enterprises had reached 702 million, marking a net increase of 11.46 million from the end of the previous year. Among these users, those with speeds of 100Mbps and above accounted for 671 million, representing 95.6% of the total user base. Furthermore, users with speeds of 1000Mbps and above reached 260 million, experiencing a net increase of 21.98 million from the end of the previous year, and constituting 37.1% of the total user base, which is a 2.6 percentage point increase.
5G mobile phone users now constitute over 70% of the total. By the end of July, the total number of mobile phone users had reached 1.847 billion, with a net increase of 20.62 million from the end of the previous year. Among them, 5G users accounted for 1.303 billion, reflecting a net increase of 98.75 million from the end of the previous year, and making up 70.5% of all mobile phone users.
