On August 27, a top digital policy official in Germany highlighted that the swift surge in demand for artificial intelligence is intensifying the strain on data center computing capacity in Germany, the largest economy in Europe. German Digital Minister Karsten Wildberg remarked on Thursday that the scarcity of computing power suggests a sustained upward trajectory in demand. He delineated Germany’s strategic vision to quadruple its computing capacity and double its data center capacity by the end of the decade. Since the establishment of a dedicated technology policy department in Germany, Wildberg has been dedicated to advancing digital sovereignty in Europe, while the EU also aims to maintain ties with innovative forces in other regions. Wildberg also mentioned that the German government will expedite the approval process for data centers. Germany aims to boost its data center capacity to around 6 gigawatts by 2030, whereas institutions project that the installed capacity of data centers in the United States will reach 118 gigawatts within the same timeframe.
