On August 26, reports indicated that the total electricity consumption across society surpassed 1 trillion kWh in July. Notably, internet data services experienced a substantial 40% year-on-year surge in electricity usage, highlighting computing power as a key contributor to the burgeoning electricity demand. In Changshu, Jiangsu, a smart computing center saw its peak electricity load soar by over 70% compared to the same period last year in August. The computing power industry's peak load reached an impressive 200,000 kW, constituting roughly 4.1% of the city's total electricity load. According to the State Grid Changshu Power Supply Company, the computing power sector accounted for nearly half of the city's increased electricity load, contributing approximately 49%. This summer, computing power load has supplanted seasonal air conditioning load as the primary driver behind the growth in electricity consumption. In July, the electricity consumption of 106 computing center enterprises in Jiangsu exceeded 1.3 billion kWh, marking a 31% year-on-year increase. Supercomputing and smart computing centers accounted for over 80% of this total consumption.
