According to sources familiar with the matter, the Trump administration in the United States is drafting a new regulation to ban the import of new models of Chinese data center components, aiming to protect critical infrastructure supporting the development of artificial intelligence. Led by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the measure targets banning the import of new Chinese optical modules, which are core components for high-speed data transmission within data centers. The relevant rules are expected to be announced and take effect within 2026, but they have not been officially released yet and may still be modified or shelved.
