Intel has revealed plans to initiate a fresh round of layoffs within its Data Center and AI Group. The company intends to reduce its workforce by 103 positions across four office sites in the U.S. Bay Area in August. These layoffs are set to commence on August 15, with the primary impact being felt at the office facilities in Santa Clara, California. According to financial reports, in the second quarter, Intel witnessed a 48% year-on-year increase in the average selling price of its server CPUs. Concurrently, the revenue generated from its Data Center and AI business surged by 59% year-on-year, amounting to $6.3 billion. Since 2022, Intel's global workforce has seen a significant decline, shrinking from roughly 132,000 employees to about 81,000, marking a nearly 40% reduction. This downsizing is mainly attributed to business realignments, divestitures, and layoffs. Intel's restructuring efforts in its data center business have been underway for over a year. In September 2025, under the leadership of CEO Lip-Bu Tan, the management team underwent restructuring. This involved splitting the Data Center and AI Group and streamlining the organizational structure by eliminating additional management layers.
