The ranking Democratic member of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee has dispatched a letter to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, suggesting an inspection of xAI's data centers and power facilities located in and around Memphis, Tennessee. In his correspondence, Democratic Representative Frank Pallone from New Jersey emphasized that the American populace is apprehensive about the repercussions of the extensive proliferation of data centers and the dominance of tech behemoths in the artificial intelligence sector. These concerns encompass the effects on local communities, employment opportunities, property values, and sustainable development. Moreover, escalating electricity costs, heightened strain on the power grid, air and water contamination, and incessant noise pollution are adversely affecting the well-being of residents and eroding public tolerance.
