According to two sources familiar with the matter, OpenAI is in advanced discussions to lease a planned data center campus in Ohio with a total capacity of 10 gigawatts, a collaboration that may receive financial support from NVIDIA. It is reported that if fully constructed at current prices, the total investment in the campus would be at least $500 billion. OpenAI will sign a long-term lease, taking control of all equipment within the data center, with the first phase of the project expected to go into operation in 2028, followed by regular rental payments.
