On April 20th, China Telecom, in partnership with key players across the industrial ecosystem, successfully executed the world's inaugural commercial verification of 5G-A ultra-lightweight (eRedCap) end-to-end interoperability. This breakthrough also marked China's first successful test of Mobile AI service adaptation. eRedCap, a pivotal feature within the 3GPP R18 standard, builds upon RedCap technology to further enhance energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness. It precisely addresses the need for a harmonious balance between speed and cost in mid-to-low-speed IoT applications, including smart wearables, budget-friendly AI devices, industrial sensors, and smart energy systems.

The verification process rigorously evaluated three core competencies: fundamental functionality, network performance, and Mobile AI service adaptation. Remarkably, the system achieved peak uplink and downlink rates of 10Mbps, with latency and speed metrics aligning closely with expectations. These results underscore its suitability for demanding applications, such as the high-definition video streaming capabilities of AI-powered cameras. With this achievement, China Telecom is poised to expedite the commercial rollout of 5G-A eRedCap technology, ushering in a new era of intelligent living and production.
