On March 2, at the Mobile World Congress 2026 (MWC 2026), Qualcomm unveiled a landmark consensus on 6G development, forged in collaboration with nearly 60 industry-leading partners. This alliance is set to jointly propel the advancement and worldwide deployment of 6G technology. Through this partnership, a well-defined roadmap has been established, outlining a phased approach to the introduction of 6G commercial systems, beginning in 2029. The 6G Development Alliance brings together a diverse array of stakeholders, including telecom operators, smartphone manufacturers, PC makers, automotive companies, and internet giants. It focuses on three pivotal architectural domains: terminals, networks, and cloud infrastructure. The overarching goal is to transform 6G into an intelligent, AI-centric terminal and network platform. Members of the alliance will collectively spearhead the formulation of crucial 6G standards, undertake early-stage system validation, and aim to unveil pre-commercial terminals and networks that adhere to 6G specifications in 2028. This move will set a unified industry benchmark for 6G readiness and pave the way for the initial global deployment of interoperable commercial 6G systems, starting in 2029.
