Dell Technologies has launched its new-generation outdoor server, the PowerEdge XR9700, the industry's first outdoor x86 server designed for Cloud RAN and edge applications. Featuring a closed-loop liquid cooling and fully sealed rugged design, the server enables 'zero-footprint' deployment and is scheduled for global availability in the second half of 2026. The PowerEdge XR9700 aims to extend high-performance computing capabilities to areas beyond traditional data centers, ensuring stable operation in extreme environments. With a volume of approximately 15 liters, it is suitable for installation in compact outdoor spaces. In terms of performance, it is equipped with Intel Xeon 6 series SoCs, supporting fronthaul and computational processing for up to 15 5G sectors per unit. Its architecture also supports edge computing and AI applications. Rakuten Mobile in Japan will be among the first customers to deploy the server, while Samsung Electronics' Network Business Division stated that it provides a new pathway for expanding vRAN in complex edge environments.
