The Czech software firm JetBrains has declared that its Python Integrated Development Environment (IDE), PyCharm, has incorporated native support for Google Colaboratory (Google Colab) in its 2025.3.2 release. This functionality is provided to users at no cost as a fundamental feature. It's designed to seamlessly merge the coding experience of a local IDE with the cloud-based notebooks of Colab, allowing developers to craft, debug, and visualize code within a unified environment. At present, among the leading development tools, only PyCharm and Visual Studio Code offer support for Google Colab. Visual Studio Code attains this support via a dedicated extension. This latest update empowers developers who favor PyCharm to tap into Colab's cloud computing resources without the need to switch tools. This makes it an exceptionally appealing option for workflows centered around data science, machine learning, and prototype validation. Furthermore, JetBrains is expediting the integration of AI capabilities within its ecosystem. OpenAI Codex now backs multiple JetBrains IDEs, including PyCharm. Users merely need to install the most recent version of the AI Assistant plugin and ensure their IDE version is at least 2025.3. They can then choose Codex in the AI chat panel to receive help with code generation, refactoring, and explanation.
