Documents have come to light indicating that Nanto City, situated in western Japan within Toyama Prefecture and near the Sea of Japan, is set to establish what will be Japan's third-largest data center cluster. Notably, it will also hold the title of the nation's largest, boasting a total power generation capacity of 3.1 gigawatts. This coming Friday, Nanto City is slated to make a joint announcement of this ambitious plan alongside private developer GigaStream Toyama. Once completed, this project is poised to emerge as one of the most expansive data center hubs on a global scale, drawing parallels in scale to OpenAI's monumental $500 billion Stargate project, which features a staggering power generation capacity of 10 gigawatts.
