On November 11, 2025, the China Telecom Research Institute, teaming up with Zhejiang Telecom, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Qingshen Technology, and Beijing Jiefeng Chuangzhi Technology, harnessed the space-ground integrated satellite testing capabilities of its integrated cloud-network innovation platform. This collaborative effort successfully wrapped up the on-orbit technical verification of the NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) standard under Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite conditions.

The test centered around the 'Smart Sky Network 01 Satellite,' which orbits at an altitude of 20,000 kilometers. It was tailored to meet the unique demands of special scenarios, including polar scientific expeditions and broadband communications over the ocean. With a 100MHz bandwidth in the Ka-band, the test confirmed the viability of the FR2-band transparent forwarding mode. Moreover, a maritime broadband application pilot was carried out using a self-developed NTN terminal prototype. The result? A remarkable measured downlink peak speed of 140Mbps was achieved.

This groundbreaking test not only bridged the gap in on-orbit verification of broadband communication capabilities for MEO satellites but also tackled the tough challenge of dynamic synchronization in satellite-ground links. Additionally, it broke through the bottleneck of transmission efficiency under conditions of large bandwidth and low signal-to-noise ratio. All these accomplishments pave the way for the development of 6G space-ground integrated networking.
