As reported by Nikkei Asia, Microsoft is set to embark on a significant strategic shift by relocating the manufacturing operations of the majority of its new products, such as Surface laptops and servers for data centers, outside of China. This transition is slated to commence as early as 2026. The relocation plan encompasses not only the assembly processes but also the procurement of crucial components. Under this initiative, Microsoft mandates that at least 80% of the materials used in server production must originate from sources outside China. In parallel, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is actively pursuing a similar overhaul of its supply chain, aiming to restructure it right down to the component level.
