When torrential rains enshroud cities or individuals find themselves isolated in deserts, bereft of communication, mobile phones that can directly link to satellites emerge as indispensable tools for staying connected. After China Telecom's introduction of commercial mobile phone direct-to-satellite services, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has recently bestowed upon China Unicom a license to operate satellite mobile communication services. Meanwhile, China Mobile is actively pursuing the acquisition of relevant permits. As a growing number of operators secure these licenses, a new chapter in integrated space-ground communication is swiftly unfolding.
