Cloudflare has made public the news that it successfully repelled a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, which reached a staggering peak traffic volume of 22.2Tbps and an astonishing rate of 10.6 billion packets per second. This incident has set a new benchmark for the sheer scale of DDoS attacks. In recent times, there has been a noticeable and concerning escalation in both the magnitude and the regularity of DDoS attacks. Just three weeks prior, the company successfully fended off an attack that registered at 11.5Tbps with 5.1 billion packets per second. Going back two months, it had to contend with and successfully mitigate a peak attack of 7.3Tbps. Back in April of this year, Cloudflare had already sounded the alarm, cautioning that the volume of DDoS attacks it was encountering had soared to unprecedented levels. The latest attack in question persisted for a mere 40 seconds. However, during this short span, it unleashed an overwhelming surge of traffic and an enormous deluge of packets, conditions that would have easily crippled and paralyzed most systems.
