The UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) has reported the arrest of a man in his forties in West Sussex, on suspicion of being involved in a cyberattack that impacted Collins Aerospace. This cyberattack crippled the company's central MUSE system, causing operational outages that persisted for several days across various major European airports, such as London Heathrow, Brussels Airport, and Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The event underscored the aviation sector's heavy dependence on third-party IT providers and its susceptibility to cybersecurity risks. This vulnerability led to widespread flight delays or cancellations, leaving a significant number of passengers stranded. RTX, Collins Aerospace's parent company, announced that it is working diligently to restore the system, though the recovery is expected to take considerable time. Beyond the immediate financial toll, the incident disrupted supply chain logistics, tourism, and other industries, emphasizing the critical need to safeguard vital information infrastructure.
