With the ever-escalating demand for computing power, the problems of energy consumption and heat dissipation in data centers have grown more and more pronounced. A research team from the UK has unveiled an experimental chip called 'Ice River,' presenting a fresh approach to tackle this challenge.
Traditional chips tend to transform the majority of electrical energy into waste heat. In stark contrast, the 'Ice River' chip stands out by being capable of recovering and reutilizing a portion of the computational energy. This unique feature substantially enhances energy efficiency. According to tests, when carrying out the same tasks, this chip can save around 30% more energy compared to conventional chips.
