Supermicro raises its preliminary Q1 FY2027 revenue estimate to $18.5B–$19.5B and gross-margin outlook to 12%–12.5%, citing increased AI platform demand.

Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ: SMCI) has sharply increased its preliminary revenue estimate for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, citing stronger-than-expected demand for AI computing platforms. The San Jose-based company now expects quarterly revenue of $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion, compared with its previous guidance of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion. At the midpoint, the revised estimate represents a $4 billion increase, or approximately 26.7%, over the previous forecast. The quarter ended September 30, 2026.

Supermicro also raised its estimated gross margin to 12.0%–12.5%, compared with its previous outlook of 10.4%–10.8%. Management attributed the improvement primarily to customer and product mix. The simultaneous increases in revenue and gross-margin expectations are significant for a company expanding its Data Center Building Block Solutions (DCBBS) business, which integrates GPU compute systems, networking, storage, power distribution and liquid cooling into rack-scale AI infrastructure. The preliminary announcement did not disclose customer-specific orders, shipment volumes or product-level revenue contributions.

The company emphasized that the figures remain unaudited and subject to revision as it completes financial closing procedures. Its independent accounting firm has not performed audit or review procedures on the preliminary estimates. Supermicro will report its complete fiscal first-quarter results on November 3, 2026.

Analysis

Supermicro’s revised outlook provides another indication of the scale of AI infrastructure investment moving through the server and systems supply chain. The company entered FY2027 targeting $65 billion–$72 billion in annual revenue, supported by a transition from standalone server platforms toward integrated rack-scale and data-center-level deployments. Its manufacturing roadmap calls for capacity exceeding 6,000 racks, including approximately 3,000 direct-liquid-cooled racks, with 240 kW configurations entering volume deployment and higher-density architectures under development. Its DCBBS strategy also encompasses 400G/800G networking, power distribution, coolant distribution units and management software. These capabilities provide context for AI platform demand, although the October 20 announcement does not establish which configurations or customers account for the revenue increase.

The gross-margin revision is particularly important. At the midpoint, estimated gross margin rises from 10.6% to 12.25%, an improvement of 165 basis points despite the substantially higher revenue outlook. Using respective revenue and margin midpoints, implied quarterly gross profit increases from approximately $1.59 billion to $2.33 billion; these are illustrative calculations rather than reported results. Supermicro previously reported $39.1 billion in FY2026 revenue, meaning its new $19 billion quarterly midpoint approaches half of last year’s total annual sales. November 3 results will provide an opportunity to assess the sustainability of the customer and product mix, expansion financing and any changes to full-year targets.
