On August 6, South Korea's Minister of Finance, Yoo Eun-chul, disclosed that the United States has pledged to accord South Korea equal or preferential treatment in the event of new tariffs on semiconductors and pharmaceuticals, positioning it favorably against other nations. During a congressional hearing, Yoo Eun-chul remarked, "The US has guaranteed top-tier treatment for South Korea in industries like pharmaceuticals and semiconductors. While we are not entirely content, South Korea will not be disadvantaged relative to other countries." He further emphasized that South Korea has secured the most advantageous terms in the latest trade agreement, on par with Japan and the European Union.
