Sharp has entered into an agreement with Aoi Electronics, a leading Japanese electronics component manufacturer, to sell its Mie Plant 2 facility situated in Taki-gun, Mie Prefecture, Japan. This sale is aimed at facilitating Aoi's introduction of advanced semiconductor packaging lines. Originally designed for the production of small and medium-sized liquid crystal panels, the plant's transition aligns with Sharp's asset-light business strategy. The deal encompasses approximately 54,000 square meters of factory buildings, along with associated land. The transfer of the factory buildings was finalized on July 31st, with the land expected to be handed over by the end of 2025.
