On May 29th, the Yangtze Optical Fiber and Cable Company's state-of-the-art Wuhan facility officially commenced production of its first batch of silicon carbide wafers. This facility stands as China's largest silicon carbide semiconductor manufacturing hub, anticipated to contribute up to 30% of the country's silicon carbide wafer production capacity, potentially alleviating the chip shortage impacting China's burgeoning new energy industry. With a cumulative investment exceeding RMB 20 billion, Phase One of the project prioritizes the research, development, and manufacturing of third-generation semiconductor power devices. Boasting an annual production capacity of 360,000 6-inch silicon carbide wafers, this facility is equipped to fulfill the manufacturing requirements for 1.44 million new energy vehicles, positioning it among the global leaders in terms of production scale.
