On May 28, multiple sources revealed that the Ministry of Commerce heightened the promotion of rare earth export control policies during a symposium involving both upstream and downstream enterprises within the China-EU semiconductor industry. This initiative aims to foster closer communication with Chinese and European chip enterprises regarding rare earth export regulations, thereby ensuring the stability of the global industrial chain. Rare earth elements play a pivotal role in semiconductor manufacturing, with numerous production stages heavily reliant on them.
During the meeting, the Department of Industrial Security and Import and Export Control of the Ministry of Commerce provided a detailed explanation of the rare earth export control policies, assisting enterprises and their suppliers in comprehending the process of applying for export licenses. Some sources speculated that this move could be a signal that China may ease export controls on rare earths for the benefit of the industrial chain of both Chinese and European semiconductor enterprises, ultimately aiming to better preserve the stability of the global industrial chain.
