TSMC has been accused of illegally producing AI chips for a company's agent, potentially exposing it to fines exceeding $1 billion from the United States. Reports indicate that last year, TSMC manufactured 7nm process chips for Sophgo (Suaneng Technology), only to later discover that these chips were actually computing modules intended for a major enterprise's AI chips. Consequently, TSMC ceased production of these chips. In its annual report, TSMC acknowledged the inherent difficulties in monitoring the distribution and usage of chips once they leave the factory, highlighting the natural limitations involved in such tracking efforts.
