Recently, the U.S. Department of Commerce imposed export controls on NVIDIA H20, AMD MI308, and comparable AI chips, necessitating government approval for their shipment to China. This development marks a significant intensification of the U.S. AI chip embargo. Gao De, an analyst from Gaode Consulting Company, observed that this American measure could paradoxically catalyze the autonomous growth of China's chip industry, given China's relentless push towards chip localization. In response to these export restrictions, Chinese tech enterprises are likely to expedite their quest for domestic substitutes to address the domestic demand for advanced AI chips.
