Western Digital anticipates launching a 40TB Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) Hard Disk Drive (HDD) in the second half of 2026, and is currently transforming its production lines to accommodate future market demands. Despite a decline in consumer demand for smaller-capacity HDDs, there is a persistent growth in the demand for high-capacity single-disk HDDs. In response to this trend, Western Digital will introduce WD Blue HDDs with enhanced storage capacities. Furthermore, in 2016, Western Digital acquired SanDisk to address challenges within the HDD industry, while this year's spin-off reflects differing shareholder perspectives on the attributes of HDD and flash memory businesses. Following the spin-off, brand naming strategies will undergo gradual adjustments.
