Microsoft has announced that the Spaces feature in SharePoint Online will be retired on August 11, 2025. Spaces, a web-based immersive platform designed for creating and sharing mixed reality experiences, is being phased out due to its limited usage. In lieu of Spaces, Microsoft will concentrate its investments on Microsoft Mesh, a robust multi-user collaboration platform. The retirement process will unfold in three distinct phases:

• From March 10, 2025, the Spaces feature will be turned off by default, but users can still enable it for individual sites via the "Site Features" page.
• Starting May 15, 2025, users will no longer have the option to enable the feature, although any sites that have already enabled Spaces will continue to function.
• By August 11, 2025, the Spaces feature will be fully retired.

Microsoft advises users to migrate their content to SharePoint pages and explore the potential of Microsoft Mesh for future immersive experiences. This change will take effect automatically on the specified dates and does not necessitate any action from administrators.
