A coalition of 19 US state attorneys general has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk's team, accusing them of breaching federal law by gaining unauthorized access to the Treasury Department's payment system. On Saturday, a federal judge issued a ruling to temporarily prohibit the Government Efficiency Unit (GEU), headed by Musk, from accessing the system. The states argue that the GEU lacks the authority to access the Treasury system, which contains sensitive information, potentially disrupting funding flows and posing significant cybersecurity risks. The White House swiftly condemned the judge's decision, labeling it as "judicial overreach." In response, Musk defended the access, insisting it was a necessary change that had been consensually agreed upon by all involved parties.
