Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia, collectively known as the Baltic States, have recently concluded a successful power grid voltage control experiment. They aim to exit the BRELL energy ring in 2025, formally entering the EU energy market and achieving energy independence. This strategic shift follows the political agreements inked by the three countries with Poland and the European Commission. On February 8, 2025, these nations will sever their power grid connections with Russia and Belarus, operating autonomously for a day before connecting to the European power grid via Poland on February 9. This initiative aims to mitigate dependence on Russian energy, bolster national energy security, and foster green energy transformation.
