Samsung Electronics has decided to exit the 8-inch wafer foundry business entirely and has notified its customers, with plans to shut down all related production lines by the end of 2030. Previously, the company had only stated that it would gradually reduce its 8-inch production capacity; this marks the first time it has specified a timeline for a full exit. Moving forward, Samsung intends to concentrate its workforce and equipment investments on advanced 12-inch wafer processes.
