On November 2, Korean media outlet THE ELEC reported that Samsung Electronics has confirmed it will completely withdraw from the 8-inch chip foundry business and has notified its customers. Previously, Samsung had only stated that it would gradually reduce its 8-inch production lines; this marks the first time the company has clearly specified an end date. According to industry sources on the 2nd, Samsung recently notified 8-inch foundry customers that it plans to completely cease operations on the relevant production lines by the end of 2030. South Korean fabless semiconductor companies that had previously commissioned Samsung to produce chips are urgently seeking alternative production bases. Reports indicate that Samsung has established a policy to restructure its 8-inch business and concentrate personnel and equipment investment on advanced 12-inch chip processes.
