On October 29, a research team from the University of Science and Technology of China announced a breakthrough: they had successfully synthesized a metallic carbon nanoribbon using a meticulous step-by-step surface synthesis approach. This nanoribbon is unique in that it consists solely of five-membered and seven-membered rings, forming a novel "pent-hept ring" carbon nanoribbon structure. Composed of carbon atoms interconnected by covalent bonds and boasting a sub-nanometer width, this nanoribbon exhibits remarkable electron transport capabilities. The research findings were promptly published online on the same day in the esteemed international academic journal Nature.
