According to people familiar with the matter, Solidigm Inc., a subsidiary of South Korean memory chip manufacturer SK Hynix, is in talks with the US government about a $45 billion plan to build a new chip factory in the United States. If the project materializes, it will be the first newly built large-scale flash memory chip production facility in the US. Solidigm hopes to obtain approval from the US government before proceeding, in order to ship equipment overseas to upgrade its existing factories. Solidigm has indicated to the US side that upgrading its Dalian factory could provide funding for the new US project and accelerate development progress.
