The U.S. Department of Energy has classified helium as a critical material due to its vital role in domestic manufacturing and semiconductor production, coupled with its susceptibility to supply chain disruptions. In a statement released on Friday, the Department noted that this inert gas is irreplaceable in numerous critical applications. Previously, elements such as cobalt, magnesium, and lithium have already been included in the list.
