Over the past month or thereabouts, approximately 10 listed companies—with traditional core businesses like Xinya Electronic Materials Group and Huazhijie Electric—have announced plans for cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&As) targeting high-demand technology sectors, including semiconductors, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and robotics. However, the path to successful M&As has been far from smooth. For instance, Dongbai Group called off its planned acquisition of optoelectronic assets a mere three days after making the announcement. In light of these developments, Angel investor and senior AI expert Guo Tao offered his insights. He noted that, amidst a backdrop of sustained policy support, A-share companies are indeed stepping up their efforts in cross-border M&As within the technology sector. Nevertheless, he emphasized that integrating across different industries still encounters deep-rooted challenges, with past cases often struggling with integration issues and falling short of expected outcomes.
