On October 16, 2026, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry gave the green light to the revised production blueprint for TSMC's second fabrication plant (Fab 2) in Kumamoto. This adjustment was proposed by TSMC in collaboration with its Japanese subsidiary, JASM. Under the updated scheme, Fab 2 is set to commence the production of 3nm process logic semiconductors by December 2028. The anticipated monthly output stands at 6,000 wafers (300mm wafers as the standard), with the inaugural batch slated for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2028. The production is projected to span over a decade, catering predominantly to the Japanese market.
