According to reports, Apple has decided to forgo the development of the M6 Pro, M6 Max, and M6 Ultra chips, opting instead to concentrate its resources on crafting the M7 series chips, which are tailored to support artificial intelligence computing capabilities. At present, Apple has already integrated the M6 chip into the Mac mini and has plans to expand its utilization to the iMac and the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro. Nevertheless, Apple has no intentions of producing higher-performance variants such as the M6 Pro, M6 Max, or M6 Ultra chips. Rather, it has made the strategic choice to leapfrog from the M5 series to the M7 series for chips intended for high-end Macs. The forthcoming OLED iteration of the MacBook Pro will persist in employing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, without a concurrent chip upgrade coinciding with the screen transition. The new entry-level MacBook Pro, equipped with the M7 chip, is anticipated to debut in 2027, while the high-end touchscreen MacBook Pro will not incorporate the M7 Pro and M7 Max chips until the latter part of 2027. The more robust M7 Ultra chip is projected to be unveiled in the first half of 2028, and it appears improbable that the Mac Studio will introduce a new model in 2027.
