On October 14, Beijing time, Elon Musk took to the social media platform X to voice his criticism of the exorbitant pricing strategies employed by many memory manufacturers, likening their tactics to outright extortion. Simultaneously, he singled out Micron for commendation, highlighting its fair pricing approach as a strategic move likely to foster enduring customer loyalty. Musk refrained from specifying the particular memory products in question or providing a detailed comparison of manufacturers' pricing. It's worth noting that prior to this, Tesla had already made adjustments to the memory configurations of its AI chips, notably reducing the LPDDR5 memory capacity of the AI5 chip from 144GB to 96GB and the LPDDR6 memory of the AI6 chip from 216GB to 144GB—each representing a one-third decrease—in a bid to lessen its dependence on DRAM.
